jpop vs kpop

So jpop vs kpop is an ongoing battle for me. There are heaps of people in my generation that is just obsessed with kpop, and then there's me and eric, and some other people from school who love our jap music. I don't actually know why people love korean music so much, since in my opinion jap is just so much better, but I can't force my opinion on other people.

But now I've found conclusive evidence that jpop is more popular than kpop.
I was on this forum about my favourite band SCANDAL right, and one of the topics was about jpop vs kpop. Turns out channel[V] (the music channel) held a competition called battle of the pop (Japan vs. Korea) which is pretty much jpop vs kpop. People would vote online for who they think is better, out of a certain pairing.

The results were:

That's right. Out of the 8 pairings, only one Korean group came out on top, and that was DBSK. In every other pairing, the Jap band/group/artist won.
That means, all the popular groups in my generation lost to the Jap counterparts.
The popular Big Bang lost to Kat-Tun by 4000 votes, and I bet no-one from my generation has even heard of Kat-Tun before.
The group I know a lot of girls like, SHINee lost to W-inds by 1000 votes.
Rain lost to Mika Nakashima by 4000 votes as well.
DBSK did well though, they beat Koda Kumi by 4000 votes, the only kpop group to win their pairing.
Super Junior lost to Arashi by  4000 votes. Bad luck to all the Super Junior fans out there :P
Yui completely owned Wonder Girls by beating them by 5000 votes, I was actually suprised at how much Yui's popularity has grown.
BoA lost to Ayumi Hamasaki by 3000 votes.
And they obviously saved the best till last, SCANDAL beat SNSD by 2000 points! That's right! To everyone who disliked my taste in jap bands, you couldn't have been more wrong. SCANDAL easily beat SNSD which just makes SCANDAL so much better. How many people are in SNSD? Like 9? So it was pretty much 4 vs 9 and SCANDAL still won. No-one can bag me about my music now if they listen to Korean music.

This ranking shows just how awesome and popular Jap music is, and everyone should be listening to Jap not Korean >_> but ohwell, I'm happy Jap music is more popular, now I can brag :D

2011 in Mansfield!

So last year, I went to Mansfield to do a missions trip, and I also spent new years there if you didn't know.
To be honest, at first I was nervous about going, but when I was actually there, it was absolutely awesome. Meeting so many people from all over Melbourne, and all going together to help the people from Mansfield get to know Jesus is something I'm glad I got to be a part of.

The Blue Moose Mansfield team were the best, there was never a dull moment, and they pretty much became my second family.  As a team, there was so much we did together. I had my daily potassium time with a guy called Mike, and it was just us eating a banana everyday. There was also Mr.Uke and Mr.Ukimara, our two beloved ukuleles. As well as what I think was the quote of the trip, "would you rather cut your own leg off, or stomp on a bag of kittens?" really made the experience all the more fun.

As for the actual stuff we went up there to do, we ran a cafe/drop in centre for the locals of Mansfield. It ran from 8pm to around midnight and people could just come in whenever they wanted to. Of course, we would have liked it to be packed from 8pm, but it is a small town after all. We all met so many people, and made heaps of friends there. The guy that I was closest to was a guy named James, and he was almost a copy of me. We had the same way of thinking and the same humour. When people like Joash and Chau asked us to play doubles pool with them, we both said that we're too awesome for them and don't want to make them feel bad :D The locals were all really cool, and they even told us to come back up sometime in the year to go skiing with them up at Mt.Buller. (Mansfield is pretty much next to it)

We saw so many people come in, and most of them said they love it mostly because of the stories that we tell, which were our testimonies. That was really awesome to see, and seeing them open up to our team because of it was just mind-blowing. There was even one guy who came in every night just to read and study the bible with our main leader! How awesome is that?!

I don't want to make this post too long, but to finish up I guess I would just like to say that Blue Moose is an experience that really changes a person. The intimacy with God that you can get out of it, the amazing testimonies of the people on your team, the wonders that God does at the shop, all of the answered prayers, as well as the amount of fun that you can have, is really amazing. I never would have thought in 10 days so much could happen and for it to go by that fast. One of the best transition between years I've ever had.

I can't wait for the re-union on wednesday! :D 

blue moose

So for those who don't know, I'm going on a summer missions trip to Mansfield. None of you probably even know where that it, it's just a random place in the country. (Y)

So for the last couple of days I've had training for it and it was awesome. The people there were friendly and fun, and just generally awesome. It's different because I'm used to Asians as the majority at church, but at youth dimension (the place that organises blue moose) Asians are the minority. Anyway, meeting all those people was really good, as well as everything I learnt from them was really good as well. The skills we learn not only help us when we are out on missions, but are life skills that all of us who were at the training will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Basically, we learnt how to talk to complete strangers and how to share the gospel with them. Of course not everyone will listen, but we learnt what we should and shouldn't do when talking to people. One of the sessions, we were all driven down to Eastland, and we all had to split up individually and try and start conversations with random strangers in an hour. I didn't go too well but other people had better luck and were able to get better conversations in lol.

Highlight of the training was definitely the people that we met. There was a massive variety of personalities and everyone got along so well. There were some quiet people, and then there are others that are loud and talkative. There was also one guy, who was a lot like Erol, except he talked more and smiled more. His name was Lachie and he had a monotone just like Erol, during our breaks we would have "story-telling will Lachie" and his stories were always hilarious, even though they were just things from his past LOL. One example would be that he told us he didn't know how to use a shower until year 7!

I found out also, that one of the people that trained us went to my school like 10 years ago. Small world huh? I also met these two people who were frisbee enthusiasts, and so at lunchtime we would throw a frisbee around, and one lunchtime we even got a game of ultimate frisbee going! It really was epic.

I even got to share SCANDAL with the people at training, even though none of them were Asian LOL. As soon as I told them that I liked the drummer, they said "FEMALE DRUMMER? HIGH FIVE. THATS A GOOD GIRL RIGHT THERE." LOL

But yeah, it was probably the most fun I've had in a long long time. A lot of the people in my friendship group are boring now, because all they do is stupid things that they think make them cool. But ohwell, it's their life.

best female band i've ever seen.

Ok, the title may be a little exaggerated, and also people may not agree with me, since they are a jap band but meh, in my opinion they are awesome.

There are HEAPS of female singers and female groups, but there aren't that many female bands. In this generation there are plenty of female singers and female groups that are popular, most common group i hear about is snsd. But there are almost no female bands that are as popular. Keyword being band. Or maybe I've just never heard of them lol.

SCANDAL on the other hand, I've known about for a while, but I've never gone and searched up their music until recently... and I've found them to be pretty awesome.

Good music, and they're not like the sterotypical band with one singer and everyone else just plays instruments. Everyone in the band sings and plays their own instrument which is pretty cool.

Not to mention they're good looking too haha. I feel like a fanboy hoarding over them, especially the drummer. Oh man Rina is so (Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)(Y) I like fell in love with her LOL >_>
